Preparing your equipment to be housed for winter, or ensuring that it is in top notch condition to continue performing in winter elements are key components to owning machinery.
If servicing your equipment at home, be sure to clean it thoroughly by removing all debris, chaff and grain. Debris presents prime nesting places for rodents that will chew, reproduce and create moisture in your equipment, all leading to detrimental issues and costly repairs.
Check your fuel and fluids. Make sure that all of your grease fittings have been serviced and that your machinery is properly lubricated.
Make a point to check the battery. Batteries should be cleaned, fully charged and disconnected to prevent leaks if your equipment will not be in use throughout the winter months. If storing your battery, it is best to keep it elevated off of the ground and in a temperature-controlled environment (32°F to 80°F). Be sure to hook it up to a battery tender every so often to maintain its lifespan.
Remove, clean and properly store all summer implements so that they are accessible and ready for use in the spring. Now is a good time to have these items serviced and repaired, to prevent downtime when warmer weather returns. Double check that all winter implements are in good working condition and make necessary repairs prior to use.
If you are in need of regular maintenance or repairs, wish to have your equipment prepared for continued winter use or winterized until spring, our service department and experienced technicians are here to handle your needs. Contact us today to schedule an in-shop or on-site appointment.
Be sure to stock up on fluids and filters before the weather strikes. With the continuous drop in temperature, we recommend that you begin treating your fuel now. Adding Power Service to your fuel will assist in keeping it from jelling. We further recommend having a block heather installed. When sub-zero temperatures strike and snow is flying, the risk of your equipment not starting is an added condition that you do not want to be faced with. Utilizing a block heater will aide in cutting down on the idling time needed to reach optimal working temperature, allowing for increased productivity.
If you are dusting off your snow removal equipment, be sure to check it over for wear and tear. We have shear bolts, skid shows and ice chains available to replace any parts that might be worn from last season.
